Kim Kardashian's theft trial commencement in Paris as jury members are being selected.
French Courtrooms Ablaze with Kardashian's $9 Million Heist
The City of Lights is once again the stage for legal drama as ten individuals, including "granddad bandits", stand trial for their alleged role in the $9 million robbery of reality TV star, Kim Kardashian.
The 2016 robbery, that took place during Paris Fashion Week, saw Kardashian, 44, ensnared at gunpoint and her precious jewels swiped from a swanky apartment complex. Five suspects breezed into the building on bicycles and foot, ambushed Kardashian, and absconded with her glittering loot. The remaining defendants are implicated in planning and providing insider information.
As the trial unfurls, a 72-year-old defendant has already confessed to his involvement in the heist, as detailed in his 2021 book, "I Kidnapped Kim Kardashian". He divulges his recruitment by the robbers months prior to the robbery, but only discovered the identity of his target after the crime.
Defendant Yunice Abbas' lawyer shares that Abbas is eager to express his remorse in court. With a French judicial system allowing suspects to admit or deny guilt, the proceedings will continue unabated, regardless.
As the maximum sentence for this trial exceeds 20 years, a jury will decide the defendants' fate, with no camera coverage allowed in the courtroom. The public will instead rely on journalists and sketch artists' accounts to follow the trial's proceedings. Kardashian herself is slated to take the stand on May 13th, 2025.
In the past, she recounted the ordeal as a harrowing moment marked by fear for her life, as she found herself powerless in the face of armed robbers.
