Kim Hyun-soo faces former team LG Twins in emotional KBO return

At 38, Kim Hyun-soo is set to make his first return to Jamsil Baseball Stadium as a visiting player. The veteran outfielder, now with the KT Wiz, spent eight seasons with the LG Twins before switching teams in the offseason. His arrival marks a new chapter in a career spanning 19 years in Korean baseball. Kim Hyun-soo left the LG Twins after a successful run that included back-to-back Korean Series titles in 2023 and 2025. His standout performance in the 2025 championship earned him MVP honours. Over his time with the Twins, he maintained a .306 batting average and drove in 751 runs.

Now with the KT Wiz, he faces his former club for the first time. The matchup carries extra weight, as the Wiz have strengthened their roster with offseason signings like Kim to challenge the Twins in 2026. The LG Twins, with eight KBO championships to their name, remain a top contender despite his departure. Kim has spoken openly about the emotional challenge of playing against his old teammates. He expects unfamiliar pitches from those who once stood beside him. Though he isn't predicting a strong performance at the plate, he remains focused on staying composed during the game.

The KT Wiz are counting on Kim Hyun-soo's experience as they push for a deeper playoff run this season. His first game against the LG Twins will test both his skill and his ability to adapt. Meanwhile, the Twins still hold favouritism for the 2026 title, even without their former star.
