Kilian Jornet Conquers Colorado Fourteeners, Eyes Cascade Range
Kilian Jornet, renowned for his record-breaking mountaineering and trail running feats, has shifted his focus to the Cascade Range for the final stages of his 'States of Elevation' quest.
Jornet, known for projects like 'Summits of My Life' where he aimed to conquer various peaks worldwide, has been active in the Colorado section. He averaged four and a half hours of sleep per night during this phase. His route included notable challenges such as the 'LA Freeway', 'The Elk Traverse', 'Nolan's 14', the Crestone Group, and peaks in the San Juan Range. He began his journey on Sept. 3 with an ascent of Longs Peak in Colorado.
In Colorado, Jornet climbed an impressive 56 fourteener summits in just 16 days. This grueling feat covered a distance of 1,207 miles and involved ascending a staggering 256,000 feet. Prior to this, he had completed all the 14,000-foot peaks in Colorado and California, including the highest peak in the contiguous United States, Mount Whitney.
Looking ahead, Jornet's itinerary includes Mount Shasta in northern California and Mount Rainier in Washington. These iconic peaks in the Cascade Range will mark the culmination of his 'States of Elevation' quest.
