Kickoff of the Regional League's New Season

The Regionalliga Südwest is back for the 2025/26 season, and five Hessian clubs are ready to make their mark. Here's a rundown of the first day matchups for these clubs.

KSV Hessen Kassel will start their campaign away from home, facing FC 08 Homburg. The team, aiming for stability in the upcoming season, has bolstered their squad with the addition of Austrian striker Zvonimir Plavcic and the loan signing of Jakob Kuntze from Paderborn.

FSV Frankfurt, who have a close cooperation with Frankfurt Eintracht since 2023, will travel to SV Sandhausen. Sandhausen, a third-tier relegation side, are considered a top favourite for promotion this season. FSV Frankfurt's determination to challenge for a spot in the top tier is evident, as they aim to build on their previous season's success.

Kickers Offenbach, under new coach Kristjan Glibo, will play away at Bahlinger SC. Offenbach, who finished second in the previous season, are aiming to challenge for promotion once again.

TSV Schott Mainz will travel to FC Bayern Alzenau, while FSV Mainz 05 II will host FC-Astoria Walldorf at home.

In a highly anticipated match, SG Barockstadt Fulda-Lehnerz will host Stuttgart Kickers in their opening match of the season. Barockstadt, known for producing talent such as Jamal Musiala, have been focusing on regional youth development. The Swabians will provide a tough test for Barockstadt, as they are no easy opponents.

The first day matchups took place on the opening weekend (August 1-3, 2025). The results saw KSV Hessen Kassel draw 1:1 with FC 08 Homburg, FSV Frankfurt win 2:1 against SV Sandhausen, Kickers Offenbach win 2:0 against Bahlinger SC, TSV Schott Mainz win 4:0 against FC Bayern Alzenau, and FSV Mainz 05 II draw 0:0 with FC-Astoria Walldorf.

These Hessian clubs will continue to battle it out in the Regionalliga Südwest, with the hope of securing a spot in the 2026/27 2. Bundesliga.

  1. The inclusion of Zvonimir Plavcic and Jakob Kuntze in KSV Hessen Kassel's squad indicates their intent to compete in European-league style football in the upcoming Regionalliga Südwest season.
  2. FSV Frankfurt's close collaboration with Frankfurt Eintracht since 2023, coupled with their determination to challenge for a top-tier spot, positions them well to make a significant impact in European-leagues in the future.
