Khachanov and Michelsen Shine in Pre-US Open Tune-ups

Russian tennis player Karen Khachanov is in fine form ahead of the US Open, following a string of impressive performances in recent hard-court tournaments. Khachanov, currently ranked ATP #16, reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon 2025 but lost to Taylor Fritz in a closely contested four-set match. Since then, he has claimed a significant victory over Casper Ruud at the 2025 National Bank Open in Toronto.

Meanwhile, Norwegian player Alex Michelsen made headlines with his victory at the Masters tournament, securing his first quarter-final place. Michelsen's win came against Learner Tien in an 81-minute match, during which he showcased his strong forehand. He attributed his success to a lack of unforced errors from Tien, who made 42 throughout the match.

Michelsen was pleased with his performance, stating that his game plan worked well and he was able to finish the match successfully. He did not mention any specific issues with his forehand during the match, but did highlight its importance in securing the victory.

In the National Bank Open, Khachanov produced love games in his final two service games of the match, reeling off 18 straight points on serve over the first and second sets. He expressed satisfaction with his serving performance, indicating good form heading into the US Open.

Norway's Casper Ruud, who skipped Wimbledon due to injury, is also participating in the tournament. However, he was unable to gain control of the match against Khachanov in Toronto.

With Khachanov's recent wins over top-20 players and solid form, his upcoming quarter-final match at the US Open is eagerly anticipated. Detailed information about his opponent in that match or the exact schedule is not yet available. Nonetheless, Khachanov's performances in the lead-up tournaments and his current ranking position him as a competitive contender at the upcoming US Open.

Michelsen, on the other hand, is thrilled about reaching the quarter-finals, which marks uncharted territory for him. His victory over Tien at the Masters tournament marked his first Masters quarter-final appearance.
