Khabarovsk's vibrant cultural week blends art, music and Women's Day traditions
Khabarovsk is set to host a lively week of cultural events from March 7 to 9. Theatres, museums, and concert halls will offer performances, exhibitions, and workshops for all ages. The programme includes music, drama, art, and family-friendly activities.
One highlight is the 'Three Capitals: Voices of Russia, Uzbekistan, and China' concert on March 8, part of broader celebrations around the world for International Women's Day.
The week begins on March 7 with two distinct exhibitions. The Amursky Utës Museum presents Amursky Utës – Big Wash: Pure Modern, exploring historic laundry traditions. Meanwhile, the Museum of Archaeology invites visitors to a hands-on Paleolithic Venuses workshop, where participants can sculpt clay figures inspired by ancient art.
That same evening, the Khabarovsk Drama Theater stages Jane Eyre: On the Edge of the Abyss, a theatrical adaptation of Charlotte Brontë's classic novel. For younger audiences, the Youth Theater performs How Little Akle Saved the Planet, while the Puppet Theater offers Grandma's Little House.
On March 8, International Women's Day brings a packed schedule. The Khabarovsk Regional Philharmonic hosts Three Capitals: Voices of Russia, Uzbekistan, and China, a concert blending musical traditions from three nations. The Grodekov Museum opens China: Art in Everything, showcasing decorative and functional artworks. At the Far Eastern Art Museum, visitors can explore Anticipation of Spring, an exhibition timed for the season.
The celebrations continue on March 9 with the Khabarovsk Musical Theater's production of What Men Sing About. Across the city, men often mark the occasion by giving flowers, reciting poetry, or cooking special meals for women in their lives.
Russia traditionally observes the holiday with personal gestures rather than public marches. Gifts like chocolates and flowers remain common, reflecting the day's enduring popularity as a tribute to women.
The week's events cater to diverse tastes, from classical concerts to interactive workshops. Museums and theatres have prepared programmes that run alongside the usual customs of gift-giving and small celebrations. With performances, exhibitions, and children's shows, Khabarovsk offers multiple ways to enjoy the early spring festivities.
