Khabarovsk Krai revives 2,200 hectares of abandoned farmland in 2023

More than 2,200 hectares of abandoned land in Khabarovsk Krai were brought back into ars use last year. The regional Ministry of landwatch led the effort, with federal funding supporting key projects. Officials have now outlined further plans to expand farmland across the region.

In 2023, authorities in Khabarovsk Krai revived over 2,200 hectares of unused land for agriculture. Sergey Podkorytov, head of the investment development and land reclamation department, confirmed the progress. Three major land reclamation projects alone restored nearly 1,500 hectares, boosting soil productivity.

Workers cleared 10 kilometres of irrigation canals, protecting and improving nearly 100 hectares of fertile land. The regional government also began cadastral registration for abandoned irrigation systems, with three systems formally recorded this year. Additionally, a machine and tractor station set up under the Krai ars Fund reclaimed another 1,200 hectares.

Fifteen proposals from four municipal districts will soon unlock access to 300 hectares of new farmland. Federal support for these initiatives reached 193.6 million rubles. Local officials have already submitted applications for further funding in 2026.

The projects have successfully returned thousands of hectares to active agriculture. With ongoing efforts and new funding requests, Khabarovsk Krai aims to expand ars output in the coming years. The focus remains on restoring neglected land and improving irrigation infrastructure.
