Kevin Bacon Expresses Desire for The Bondsman to Delve Further into Inferno
In a world where viewers eagerly anticipate the return of their favourite shows, it's with a heavy heart that we report the cancellation of "The Bondsman" on Prime Video. Despite a promising debut and generally positive critical reception, the series was axed just a month and a half after its April 3, 2025, premiere.
The Prime Video series, which features Kevin Bacon as a bail bondsman who dies on the job and is sent to hell, offered a unique blend of action, drama, and dark humour. Bacon's character, Hub Halloran, is a failed musician and family man who, while serving as Satan's bounty hunter, learns about emotional evolution.
Hub Halloran's journey was not an easy one. He found himself in several physical fights, including an extended underwater sequence and one involving a flaming chainsaw. Bacon, who expressed enthusiasm for a second season, was open to more physical challenges and interested in exploring Halloran's emotional challenges, such as loss, guilt, and redemption.
The creators of "The Bondsman", including Bacon and Erik Olesen, had conversations about the possibility of a second season. Olesen, the showrunner, even wrote season one with the intention of making it difficult for Amazon to resist renewing the series. However, despite these efforts, the conversations have not resulted in a decision yet.
The cancellation of "The Bondsman" was met with disappointment, particularly from Bacon himself. The series, which received positive reviews, particularly from fans of "Stan Against Evil", "Ash vs. Evil Dead", and the recently dearly departed "Evil", was a fun, fast-paced, occasionally gory ride. The season one finale even ended with a plot twist that suggested the potential for a second season.
As we bid farewell to "The Bondsman", we can't help but reflect on the themes of loss, guilt, and redemption that the series so poignantly explored. The future of "The Bondsman" beyond its first season remains uncertain, but we can only hope that one day, the series will rise from the ashes, ready to continue Halloran's journey.
