Kesha Pursues Disruption in the Music Sphere Through Development of a LinkedIn-Evoking Application

Renowned pop artist Kesha is poised for a resurgence, embarking on a global tour and launching a new social app aimed at revolutionizing the music industry. Kesha, known for hits such as "Tik Tok" and "Boy Crazy," has distanced herself from her former label and is now venturing into entrepreneurship.

The singer recently announced her upcoming app, dubbed "Smash," during an Instagram post. Smash is envisioned as a dedicated platform for music industry professionals to collaborate and connect, much like a hybrid of LinkedIn and Fiverr.

"I think we realize what systems are broken, and we smash them," Kesha stated about her ambitions for the platform.

Since her split with her previous label and a protracted legal battle with a producer she accused of abuse, Kesha has embraced various ventures outside music, including ghost hunting, TED Talks, and discussions about living in a clothing-optional community. In July 2024, she released "Joy Ride," a comeback track that garnered acclaim as the return of the "Queen of recession pop."

Kesha's upcoming sixth album, as yet untitled, will be released on July 4, 2025. The symbolism behind this release date cannot be overlooked, as it reflects her newfound independence. The tour promoting the album, her first as an independent artist in the US, is set to begin at the end of May 2025 with the promise of being the most explosive yet. Kesha has declared, "I want everyone shitting themselves in unison at Madison Square Garden."

Besides the album and tour, Kesha is working on developing Smash, which, in her own words, is designed to be "LinkedIn for music creators with a Fiverr-style marketplace where you can offer your services or hire each other." By taking control of digital spaces, Kesha aims to challenge industry practices that often give power to gatekeepers and compromise artists' intellectual property rights.

Smash's development is currently in the funding phase, and a specific launch date has not been announced. However, since the website's introduction, over 50,000 creatives have waitlisted for updates in just 72 hours, demonstrating robust interest in the project. Alan Cannistraro, with a background in engineering from major tech firms like Apple and Facebook, has been appointed as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Smash.

In a recent interview, Kesha participated via a Zoom call, initially keeping her camera off. After discussing pleasantries, she agreed to turn on her camera, albeit with the condition, "Let me put some clothes on first. The only place a pop star can be naked is in her home."
