In the heart of Homa Bay, a devolution conference is underway, with VIP opulence on display. Yet, beyond the glitz and glamour, political intrigue is brewing.

The distinction between idealists and the power hungry in Kenyan politics is a fascinating study. Idealists, driven by principles, empathy, and a vision for a better world, often begin as revolutionaries, motivated to transform society or combat injustice. However, as they ascend to power, the psychological and neurological effects of power can erode their empathy and moral clarity, potentially transforming them into power-hungry figures.

William Ruto, a former revolutionary, is currently at the centre of such a debate. Accusations of causing trouble within his political party, DAP-K, have been levelled against him. The rift between Ruto and his allies, Wamalwa and Natembeya, appears to be widening, threatening the unity of the party.

Meanwhile, education reforms are underway, with university fees capped at Sh75,000. This move is aimed at making higher education more accessible to a larger number of students.

Elsewhere, a crisis meeting is being held by DAP-K as they grapple with internal issues. The meeting comes amidst allegations that Ruto is at the heart of the strife.

In a positive note, 45,000 teachers have been promoted, and William Ruto has urged hospitals to stop charging poor patients or face action.

Tragedy struck in Kisumu recently, where a bus accident claimed 26 lives. However, a mother's quick thinking managed to save lives in the aftermath.

In a separate incident, Ojwang's death involves accusations against William Ruto and the Attorney General for shielding DIG Lagat from justice.

Lastly, Kimunya is embroiled in a Sh60m land scandal. He has defended himself, stating that he did not commit fraud.

As these events unfold, the line between idealism and power hunger continues to blur in Kenyan politics, making for a fascinating political landscape.
