Kenya Opens Voter Registration for Upcoming Elections
Kenyan citizens can now register as voters, enabling them to participate in the country's democratic process. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) oversees this crucial procedure.
To register, Kenyans must be citizens, at least 18 years old, of sound mind, and free from election-related convictions in the past five years. The process uses Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits at designated centres, with each voter registering only in their intended electoral area. Those abroad can register at Kenyan diplomatic missions.
Voters can verify their registration status online via the IEBC's official website. It's important to note that registering more than once is a serious offence, punishable by law and resulting in voting disqualification. Kenya also enforces eVisa requirements for foreign visitors, with no visa on arrival option.
Kenya's voter registration process, managed by the IEBC, ensures eligible citizens can participate in presidential elections. With clear guidelines and penalties for misuse, the system aims to maintain the integrity of the democratic process.
