Kedah battles extreme heat as temperatures hit 40°C in Padang Terap

A heatwave has struck Padang Terap in Kedah, with temperatures soaring between 37 and 40 degrees Celsius. Authorities have issued warnings as several districts, including Baling, Sik, and Pendang, remain at alert level for extreme heat conditions.

The scorching weather has caused water levels in rivers and dams across Kedah to drop, raising concerns over potential shortages. Residents are being advised to limit time spent outdoors and avoid direct sunlight where possible.

Public health officials recommend drinking plenty of plain water to prevent dehydration. They also warn against open burning, as it can worsen the already high temperatures.

While no official confirmation has been released by the Malaysian Meteorological Department regarding Level 1 classifications, local authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.

The heatwave conditions in Padang Terap and surrounding districts are expected to persist for now. Residents must follow safety guidelines to reduce health risks and conserve water supplies. Further updates will depend on weather developments in the coming days.
