Sequel to Keanu Reeves' film "Constantine" in development since 2022, but progress remains uncertain due to intricate issues held by the movie creators.

Keanu Reeves reportedly expresses reservations about the script for 'Constantine 2'.

In development since 2022, the highly anticipated sequel to Keanu Reeves' film "Constantine" faces complications, with the actor reportedly dissatisfied with the script for "Constantine 2." According to a cast member, Peter Stormare, who played Lucifer in the 2005 original, Keanu Reeves has expressed his disappointment with Warner Bros' current vision for the sequel.

Stormare told The Direct that the studios want ablockbuster-style sequel, complete with cars flying and elaborate action scenes. However, Reeves seemingly prefers a more grounded, character-driven approach akin to the original "Constantine."

Stormare believes that Reeves' perspective has shifted significantly after his work on the action-packed "John Wick" franchise. The actor reportedly wants the sequel to emphasize its spiritual themes rather than focusing on action.

"I think Keanu says, 'I've done John Wick. This movie is spiritual. It's about demons and regular people. And I wanted to keep it that way," Stormare said.

Directed by Francis Lawrence, the 2005 horror fantasy also featured Rachel Weisz, Tilda Swinton, Shia LaBeouf, and Djimon Hounsou. The creative difference between Reeves and the studio may be a stumbling block in the sequel's progress.

  1. "Keanu Reeves, who played the lead role in the 2005 original 'Constantine,' has expressed his preference for a more character-driven approach in the sequel, distancing himself from the studios' preference for a blockbuster-style movie with action-heavy scenes."
  2. "The creative disagreement between Reeves and Warner Bros about the direction of 'Constantine 2' may impact the progress of the movie, which centers around demons and the struggle of ordinary people in the world of entertainment."
  3. "While Peter Stormare, who played Lucifer in the original film, supports Reeves' perspective, he has shared concerns about US cinema's tendency to lean towards action-packed films, suggesting a potential shift in focus back towards spiritual themes in 'Constantine 2'."
