KCR Delays Meeting with Kaleshwaram Project Investigation Committee Until June 11th
Hyderabad's Whirlwind: It's all about the Justice PC Ghose Commission's probe into the Kaleshwaram project's Murphy's law in Hyderabad, Telangana. Here's the lowdown!
K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the BRS party's ex-state chief, has bailed on June 5's court date and opted for a June 11 appearance instead. Meanwhile, two other key players—BJP MP ETala Rajender and Harish Rao (KCR's nephew)—have been summoned for June 6 and June 9, respectively.
Harish Rao, who was slated to hold a power-point presentation at the Telangana Bhavan regarding Kaleshwaram, has postponed the event.
Whether KCR's daughter, K Kavitha, will also postpone her planned June 4 protest against the high-profile summons remains to be seen. She's been vocal about the BRS party's silence on the issue, expressing concern over the attempt to question the party president.
The Justice PC Ghose Commission, instituted in March 2024, is scrutinizing alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project, specifically the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages. The assessment followed structural issues discovered at the Medigadda Barrage in October 2023.
With eight extensions under its belt, the Commission is scheduled to release its findings by July 31. To date, they've questioned over 100 engineers and officials.
Simultaneously, the Telangana Vigilance Commission has recommended criminal charges against 17 senior engineers, officials, and the responsible construction agency following a comprehensive probe. The report pointed to lapses in the project's execution, resulting in the sinking of Block 7 of the Medigadda Barrage and significant financial losses.
Disciplinary proceedings are also underway for 33 officials and two Finance Department officials for their roles in financial approvals related to the barrage. Additionally, recovery proceedings are being initiated to recoup the costs incurred during the block's replacement, and action is being taken against the contractor.
In summary, this investigation has shaken up the political landscape in Hyderabad, with key figures appearing before the Commission and protests mounting in response. As the investigation continues, the truth about the Kaleshwaram project's irregularities remains to be unveiled. Stay tuned!
