Kazakhstan’s snowless winter and a casino scandal down under

Kazakhstan has experienced an unusually warm start to winter, with temperatures far above normal and almost no snowfall. Meanwhile, in Australia, a Kazakh couple faces charges after being caught cheating in an online casino using hidden devices. Back home, the national currency also saw a significant rise in value last month.

The first day of winter brought little change to Kazakhstan’s mild weather. On November 30, average temperatures soared 8–11 degrees Celsius above seasonal norms. Some regions never dropped below freezing, leaving even the northern areas without snowfall. Meteorologists have attributed the unseasonable warmth to broader climate change patterns.

The lack of snow and high temperatures have left many parts of Kazakhstan facing an unusual winter. The casino fraud case in Sydney will proceed as the suspects remain in custody. Meanwhile, the tenge’s recent gains offer some economic relief, though the country also mourns the loss of a young fire victim.
