In the heart of Astana, Kazakhstan, the VIII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions took place, with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the helm. During the congress, Tokayev shared his thoughts on the risks of nuclear conflict in the world and the importance of fostering a 'Movement for Peace.'

However, the president did not specify who the moral core of this movement could be, leaving it open for interpretation. In a separate meeting held in Kazakhstan, Tokayev met with Israel's Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi Kalman Ber, Chief Sephardic Rabbi David Yosef, Malcolm Hoenlein, and other dignitaries.

The dialogue aimed to promote universal human values and strengthen cultural and spiritual ties between countries. Tokayev took the opportunity to express his confidence in the continued participation of the rabbinates in this dialogue.

Interestingly, Tokayev did not discuss the role of the Jewish community in Kazakhstan during his speech at the congress. But in a private meeting, he told his interlocutors about the significant contribution of the Jewish community to the strengthening and development of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan.

The Jewish community, an integral part of Kazakhstan's society, has played a substantial role in the country. Their active participation in interreligious dialogue, as exemplified by the leaders of the Ashkenazi and Sephardic rabbinates, is expected to continue.

President Tokayev emphasized his readiness to strengthen these ties and encouraged all parties involved to work towards a peaceful and harmonious future. The 'Movement for Peace' was identified as a key initiative in this endeavour, with young people being highlighted as the moral core of this movement, as per Tokayev's speech at the congress.

The event served as a platform for open discussions, mutual understanding, and the promotion of peace and unity among various religions and cultures.
