Revamped Report: Kazakh Judo Stars Shine at Grand Slam in Astana

The 2025 Qazaqstan Barysy Grand Slam in Astana, hosting 358 athletes from 44 nations, has seen Kazakhstan's judo stars fighting for glory. Magzhan Shamshadin secured the first medal for the home team with a valiant bronze win against the Frenchman Gin Enso, while another debutant, Aman Bakytzhan, bagged the third medal for Kazakhstan.

Magzhan, competing in the under 60 kg category, displayed his prowess and defeated Ensō confidently. His journey to the podium saw a semi-final loss against IJF representative Inaur Saaev, who faced a different Kazakh contender, Talgat Orynbassar, in the final. Despite losing to Saaev, Talgat took home the silver medal.

Aman Bakytzhan, another newcomer to the Grand Slam series, claimed the third medal for Kazakhstan, defeating the South Korean representative Lee Hari. Aman's win came after causing a stir by defeating one of the tournament favorites, the 2024 World Vice Champion Yan Yungwei of China.

As the event unfolds, more details about the bronze medalist Rafaela Silva from Brazil and other outstanding performances, such as the Olympic silver medallist and 2024 World Vice Champion YANG Yung Wei from Taiwan, three-time world medallist Abiba Abuzhakynova from Kazakhstan, the defending Olympic champion Nagase Takanori from Japan, and the rising Korean contender Lee Hyeonji, will become available.
