Kazakh Tazy Gains International Recognition at World Dog Show 2025
The Kazakh Tazy, an ancient sighthound breed native to Kazakhstan, has made a significant mark on the global dog show scene, achieving notable success at the World Dog Show (WDS) 2025 held in Helsinki.
The Tazy, traditionally known as a hunting dog companion to Kazakh falconers, has been valued for its speed, athleticism, and endurance in hunting rabbits, foxes, bears, and other game with birds of prey. Its long history and cultural significance have contributed to its recognition on global dog show stages.
The journey towards international recognition began with increased attention to the breed in recent years, with growing interest in its unique traits and heritage, including appearances in media and fashion. This interest culminated in a pivotal moment at the World Dog Show 2025, marking a major milestone in raising global awareness and appreciation of this rare sighthound breed.
Prior to the 2025 event, the Kazakhstan Kennel Union became a full member of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) in August 2023. In May 2024, a monobreed exhibition for Tazy was held in Astana, where an FCI commission examined 100 Tazy. This examination was a key event in the international recognition of the breed.
At the World Dog Show 2025, eight Tazy, selected according to strict criteria, represented the Kazakh delegation. The breed made a sensational debut, with five Kazakh Tazy winning prizes in their classes. Notable achievements include Pana being awarded the title "Vice World Champion", Kökserek receiving the same title, Tamirlan being crowned "Junior World Champion 2025", Lasyn being awarded the title "World Champion", and Aru being awarded the title "Champion of Finland".
The full recognition of the "Kazakh Tazy" breed is expected no earlier than 2034, provided the breed's development and active participation in international competitions. The appearance of Tazy at the World Dog Show 2025 and the official unveiling of the Tazy in Helsinki were significant steps in the international recognition of the breed.
The Head of State signed a law on the preservation of Tazy and Tobe, but the exact date is yet to be specified. The Kazakh Tazy's history reflects a deep-rooted cultural heritage with hunting and falconry, culminating recently in a significant international milestone at the 2025 World Dog Show, enhancing its global recognition and influence.
The Kazakh Tazy, rooted in Kazakhstan's hunting culture, has transcended its traditional role as a pet for falconers, stepping into the limelight as a global sports competitor. At the World Dog Show 2025, the Keen-eyed Tazy made a splash, dazzling the world with their athletic prowess and unique charm, ultimately winning multiple prestigious prizes, solidifying their position as a recognized sports phenomenon.
