Kazakhstan Set to Attend Meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organization's Council of Foreign Ministers

Murat Nurtleu, the Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, recently visited the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Headquarters in China. The visit occurred during Nurtleu's trip to China to attend the upcoming meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of SCO member states, scheduled for July 15 in Tianjin.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss current activities and preparations for high- and top-level events, including the Council of Foreign Ministers meeting and the SCO Summit of Heads of State, scheduled for September in China.

During his visit, Nurtleu toured the Secretariat's meeting and ceremonial rooms, including the newly modernized Astana Hall. Nurtleu praised the Secretariat's efforts to improve the organization's operational efficiency, highlighting the Secretariat's key role in promoting multifaceted cooperation within the SCO.

The meeting is a crucial part of Nurtleu's official duties related to the SCO and the upcoming Council of Foreign Ministers meeting. The SCO is a regional intergovernmental organization, with China being one of its member states.

At the meeting, Foreign Ministers will exchange views on SCO cooperation in various areas and deliberate on major international and regional issues affecting the member states and the broader region. The meeting aims to work together to realize the strategy of China's SCO presidency themed "Upholding the Shanghai Spirit: SCO on the Move," and to advance President Xi Jinping’s proposal of building a common home for the SCO characterized by solidarity, mutual trust, peace, tranquility, prosperity, development, good-neighborliness, friendship, fairness, and justice.

A key objective is to pool consensus and adopt concrete measures for enhanced cooperation, which will contribute to making the Tianjin summit a success and usher in a new stage of high-quality development for the SCO. The meeting will make political preparations for the Tianjin SCO Summit, scheduled for August 31 to September 1, 2025, which is China's top priority under its SCO presidency for 2024-2025.

The summit and related events will involve leaders from more than 20 countries and heads of 10 international organizations, reflecting the expanded engagement and influence of the SCO. President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of the SCO as a mature, vibrant organization promoting political mutual trust, fruitful cooperation across fields, regional security and stability, prosperity, and the building of a closer community with a shared future.
