As reported by the Kazakhstan Water Sports Federation, the country's artistic swimming team has been strutting its stuff with style on the world stage.

The Grand Super Final Showdown

Last June, the vibrant town of Xi'an, China, played host to the Artistic Swimming World Series Super Final, a must-see event. This global gathering brought together a whopping 125 elite athletes from 16 countries. From athletic heavyweights like Australia, Japan, and Hungary, to underdogs like Aruba, Britain, Georgia, and more, the pool was filled with swimmers ready to make a splash.

After four electrifying stages held in France, Egypt, and Canada, Kazakh athletes stole the show, snagging top positions in many disciplines.

  • The women's duet, consisting of Tuyakova Yasmina, Pushkina Arina, and Jamalchanova Dayana, seized second place among the world's best.
  • The intriguing mixed duet, featuring the talented Valeria Stolbunova and Artur Maiadanov, clinched third place, keeping the world on its toes.
  • The inspiring group, comprising Bolatova Nargiza, Druzin Viktor, Kurmangaliyeva Aigerim, Makarova Ksenia, Miasnikova Arina, Pavletova Anna, Yakimova Zhaklin, Zhenkazhy Zhaniya, and the captivating Valeria Stolbunova, made a name for themselves as they took the third spot in the world standings.

The Power of Support

Improved training conditions, state-of-the-art equipment, and expert coaches have become a reality thanks to the backing of the Federation's new leadership, led by "Samruk-Kazyna" and KEGOC. The Federation's wide expansion of local branches across the country, also contributed to this success. In June, the renowned Olympic champion, Dmitry Balandin, was appointed as the Federation's General Secretary.

From Synchronized to Artistic: A Name Change with a Purpose

Artistic swimming is the sport previously known as synchronized swimming. The name change, initiated by FINA (Fédération Internationale de Natation) in 2017, was designed to intensify interest in the sport. Artistic swimming requires a mix of swimming, dance, and gymnastics, accompanied by music.

To achieve greatness in this challenging and visually appealing sport, athletes must develop incredible strength, endurance, and coordination. Kazakhstan proves that their team is taking the world by storm, demonstrated by its recent performance at the World Aquatics Artistic Swimming World Cup 2025, where it landed in the top three for overall standings.[3]

Artistic swimming, the sport formerly known as synchronized swimming, continues to captivate the country of Kazakhstan with its mesmerizing blend of swimming, dance, and gymnastics. The national team's impressive showings at various events, such as the Artistic Swimming World Series Super Final and the World Aquatics Artistic Swimming World Cup, underscore the growing prominence of this sport in Kazakhstan.
