Kazakhstan Ministry Warns Drivers as Icy Roads Cause Pileups

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has issued a caution to drivers due to worsening weather conditions. A multi-vehicle pileup on the Astana–Petropavl highway, caused by a driver not maintaining a safe distance, has highlighted the need for extra care on icy roads. The ministry advises drivers to switch to winter tires, inspect their vehicles, increase following distance, avoid abrupt maneuvers, and reduce speed. Bridges and overpasses should also be approached with caution. The Astana–Petropavl highway incident involved four cars, with no injuries but significant mechanical damage. Meanwhile, Karaganda has seen around 30 minor accidents due to tailgating and speeding, with no reported injuries. In Kazakhstan, Chinese car brands like Geely, Chery, Haval, and BYD have gained popularity, with a significant market share in 2024. However, buyers are advised to check the availability of spare parts, the quality of local service centers, and guarantee conditions, as these can vary among models. Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution due to deteriorating weather conditions. The Astana–Petropavl highway incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safe driving practices. Drivers involved in the incident face administrative penalties.
