Kazakh PM Orders Push for Domestic Tech in Geological Exploration

Kazakhstan cuts foreign tech reliance with homegrown geological innovations

At a government meeting, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov instructed officials to step up efforts in adopting homegrown technologies for geological exploration, emphasizing the need to reduce reliance on foreign solutions, Liter.kz reports.

"We must take active measures in this area—allocating more funding to support domestic technologies," Bektenov stressed.

According to Askhat Khassenov, Chairman of NC KazMunayGas JSC, foreign technologies currently dominate the sector. However, modern domestic solutions are gradually being introduced. For instance, non-explosive seismic survey methods have been deployed at the Karazhanbas field, boosting operational efficiency by 50%.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan is expanding its domestic scientific and technological base. In collaboration with research universities, a project is underway to develop a sulfur-based polymer for fertilizer protection. The technology is expected to reduce nitrogen loss and improve its utilization efficiency.
