Kazakhstan Boosts Trade with New Railway Line to China
Kazakhstan has enhanced its transit and export potential with the Dostyk-Moynyt railway project. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev recently inaugurated the second line, anticipated to have substantial economic and geopolitical impacts, fortifying Kazakhstan's role in global trade.
The new line reduces cargo delivery times, making the China-Europa route through Kazakhstan more competitive. It's part of key international transport initiatives, such as the 'Seidenstraße' or 'New Silk Road', and the 'Trans-Caspian International Transport Route' (TITR). These initiatives aim to boost trade and goods movement between Europe and Asia, with the Dostyk-Moynyt railway playing a pivotal role in improving infrastructure and transit capabilities.
Before the launch, only 12 pairs of trains traversed the Dostyk line to China daily. Now, that number has surged to 60 pairs, enabling significant expansion of throughput and acceleration of cargo movement. The deputy anticipates this to attract foreign currency, generate new jobs in the regions, and bolster Kazakhstan's position in global logistics chains.
The launch of the second railway line is an exceptionally significant infrastructure project for Kazakhstan. It's poised to deliver substantial results for the whole country, including increased transit revenues, lower prices, and access to China's market. The Dostyk-Moynyt railway project continues to consolidate Kazakhstan's status as a regional hub.
