Kazakhstan Battles Deadly Winter Storms as Rescues Surge Across 14 Regions
Severe winter storms have struck Kazakhstan, causing widespread disruption across 14 regions. Over the past ten days, blizzards, black ice, and near-zero visibility have left roads impassable and residents stranded. Emergency teams have been working non-stop to rescue those affected by the extreme conditions.
The Emergency Situations Ministry (MChS) reported that 145 people, including 17 children, were rescued or evacuated from snowbound areas. Another 48 vehicles became trapped in deep snowdrifts before being freed by response teams. High winds and freezing temperatures worsened the situation, forcing authorities to issue repeated storm warnings.
To keep the public informed, the MChS has used SMS alerts, social media updates, and regional office announcements. Patrols in high-mobility vehicles have been scanning dangerous road sections, locating stranded motorists and providing assistance. Despite these efforts, many rural areas remain cut off, with rescue workers still operating around the clock.
Officials have strongly advised against unnecessary travel, particularly long outdoor walks or journeys in hazardous conditions. The ministry continues to urge citizens to monitor weather alerts and avoid non-essential trips until conditions improve.
The winter storms have severely impacted travel and safety across Kazakhstan's hardest-hit regions.
