Kazakhstan and Finland Sign 15 Agreements to Boost Cooperation
Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan and Sauli Niinistö of Finland met today, signing 15 agreements to boost cooperation in trade, innovation, and sustainable development. The visit was hailed as a 'groundbreaking event' by President Tokayev.
The leaders discussed accelerating bilateral cooperation in clean energy, digital technology, and sustainable development. They signed memorandums of understanding on peaceful use of nuclear energy, water resources management, and research in water management and digitalization.
President Stubb praised Kazakhstan's dynamic development and expressed interest in expanding business operations in the country. Despite a temporary slowdown in bilateral trade in 2024, Finland remains a key trading partner for Kazakhstan in Northern Europe and the European Union.
Other agreements covered tourism development, environmental monitoring, wooden housing projects, and oil spill response. Finland's social model was highlighted as an example for Kazakhstan due to its success in building an effective welfare state and maintaining low corruption levels.
The visit resulted in 15 signed documents, demonstrating a commitment to strengthen mutual trust and open new avenues for collaboration. Despite no evidence of significant Finnish investments in Kazakhstan since 2005, both countries value their partnership and stand ready to implement existing agreements and explore new areas of cooperation.
