Turkmenistan's Humanitarian Effort: Supporting Foreign Citizens in Crisis

Amidst the intense turmoil in the Middle East, especially the intense clashes between Israel and Iran, Turkmenistan has taken immediate action to offer a safe haven for the evacuation of foreign diplomats, their families, and other citizens originally from Iran. According to Vechernyaya Astana's report, this emergency measure is now in full swing.

By the end of today, over 120 citizens from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Romania, and other nations have successfully crossed the Turkmenistan border using designated checkpoints.

As soon as they arrive, these evacuees are provided with essentials such as transportation, food, accommodation, and supplies. These services are part of a larger humanitarian mission coordinated closely by Turkmenistani state bodies, foreign diplomatic missions, and international organizations.

The current crisis brings forth the importance of adhering to the principles of humanity, international cooperation, and good neighborliness, which Turkmenistan is actively demonstrating. This commitment is especially relevant in the midst of the International Year of Peace and Trust, as declared by the United Nations General Assembly based on Turkmenistan's initiative.

Background

The humanitarian effort by Turkmenistan was sparked by the rising tensions in the Middle East, primarily between Israel and Iran. The escalating conflicts have led to an uptick in missile attacks and casualties on both sides. This volatile situation has sparked growing concerns for the safety of foreign nationals in the region.

Current Status

Evacuation Process: In keeping with this humanitarian initiative, Turkmenistan has opened its borders to facilitate the safe passage of foreign diplomats, their family members, as well as other citizens currently in Iran. By mid-June 2025, approximately 120 individuals from various nations have entered Turkmenistan via designated checkpoints.

Support Provided: Upon entering the country, evacuees are offered essential support services such as transportation, sustenance, lodging, and necessities. This assistance falls under the broader context of the humanitarian mission, which requires continuous collaboration between Turkmenistani state bodies, international organizations, and diplomatic missions from foreign countries.

International Cooperation: By prioritizing humanitarian concerns and promoting international cooperation, Turkmenistan reiterates its global commitment to peaceful resolutions and support during times of conflict.

"The humanitarian mission by Turkmenistan, in response to war-and-conflicts in the Middle East, particularly between Israel and Iran, is providing essential support for evacuated citizens from various nations, such as Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Romania, and more, following the escalating tensions and missile attacks."

"Amidst general-news articles reporting the ongoing support, Turkmenistan maintains a strong focus on providing essentials such as transportation, food, accommodation, and supplies to these evacuated foreign citizens, in line with its active demonstration of humanity, international cooperation, and good neighborliness during this International Year of Peace and Trust."
