Kazakh film Erekshe blends sports and heart in groundbreaking premiere

A new Kazakh film, Erekshe (The Special One), has premiered in cinemas nationwide. Produced by the Kazakh Bowling Federation, the movie blends real competition footage with a story about friendship and resilience. Its release also supports a charitable cause—all box office earnings will fund programmes for children with disabilities. The film's plot centres on Arman, a young man from a privileged background, who forms an unlikely bond with Didar, a teenager with cerebral palsy. Didar, a Paralympic bowler, faces struggles that push him toward quitting the sport. As their friendship grows, Arman learns valuable lessons from Didar's determination.

The project was initiated by Maulen Ashimbayev, Speaker of the Senate and head of the Kazakh Bowling Federation. He aimed to promote inclusion and equal opportunity through culture and public discussion. The federation itself was founded in 2021 and now includes over 250 athletes in its programmes. *Erekshe* features real bowlers in key roles, with Zhasulan Kopbergen, Akerke Nazarbekova, and Rasul Bauyrzhan leading the cast. Serzhan Serikbay wrote the screenplay, while Ernar Nurgaliyev directed the film. The premiere also showcased actual footage from bowling competitions, giving athletes a central role in the story.

The film's debut marks a major achievement for the Kazakh Bowling Federation and the country's push for inclusive sports. With its mix of real-life athletes and a moving narrative, Erekshe highlights the power of perseverance. All ticket sales will directly benefit children with disabilities, reinforcing the project's mission of social impact.
