KATSEYE Speaks Out on Mental Health Toll of Relentless Online Threats

KATSEYE, the globally popular girl group, has revealed a distressing side to their fame. All six members have confirmed receiving online threats, with the issue becoming so severe that they've spoken out about the impact of online abuse on their mental health.

The group's journey began with 'The Debut: Dream Academy', a rigorous 12-week audition program organized by HYBE and Geffen Records, the powerhouses behind BTS. Sophia Laforteza described the training as 'very demanding', pushing the members to their limits. Despite the challenges, KATSEYE emerged as a united force, only to face a new set of trials in the form of online threats and hate.

Lara Raj, a member of the group, described the online abuse as 'heavy' and 'jarring'. The members, hailing from diverse backgrounds, admitted that the constant stream of negativity takes a toll on them. The internet, a tool meant to connect fans and artists, has instead become a platform for targeted harassment. The group expressed concerns about the power of the internet, highlighting how it can shape public perception and, in their case, fuel online threats.

Netflix recently released a docuseries in August 2024, delving into the audition program that birthed KATSEYE. While the series offers a behind-the-scenes look at their journey, the group's experience also serves as a stark reminder of the darker side of fame in the digital age. Despite the challenges, KATSEYE stands united, their voices echoing a call for change and understanding in the online community.
