Iconic Work: Sculptor Fritsch Receives Goslar's Kaiser Ring - Katharina Fritsch Wins Prestigious Goslar Kaiserring Award

Katharina Fritsch, a prominent German sculptor, has been honoured with the prestigious Goslar Kaiserring award. The 50th recipient of this prestigious accolade, Fritsch joins an illustrious list of winners that includes Joseph Beuys and Christo.

The award, a gold-mounted aquamarine bearing the seal of Emperor Henry IV, has been bestowed annually since 1975. Fritsch's art, known for its oversized sculptures and installations featuring motifs like men, madonnas, tables, and beds, has been exhibited internationally since 1986. The jury noted her significant impact on the art scene since the 1980s, surprising that she hadn't received the award earlier.

Born in Essen in 1956, Fritsch studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy until 1984. She has since become an international representative of a new generation of artists. Goslar's Mayor Urte Schwerdtner praised Fritsch as 'one of the most significant contemporary artists'. The last recipient of the Kaiserring was Miriam Cahn in 2020, with Barbara Kruger receiving it in 2019.

Katharina Fritsch's receipt of the Goslar Kaiserring further cements her status as a leading figure in contemporary art. Her art, characterised by its scale and powerful auras, continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.
