Kate Middleton, resplendent in a Catherine Walker coat dress, honors the late Queen Elizabeth II by wearing a touching piece of jewelry during the Trooping the Colour celebrations.
The princess sure did dazzle at the Trooping the Colour yesterday! The 43-year-old, known as the Princess of Wales, looked radiant riding alongside her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis through the streets of London. Her teal blue coatdress with a wide-brimmed hat and the Irish Guards regimental brooch were just a few of the pieces that made her stand out at the King's birthday festivities.
As you might know, Kate's role as Colonel of the Irish Guards meant she paid a sweet tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II with the regimental brooch. She's expected to join King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and other royals on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for the flypast.
This year's Trooping the Colour was particularly special for the Princess of Wales, making her return to public life after a health scare. Last year's event marked her first public appearance of 2024, following treatment after being diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer. In September 2024, the Princess confirmed she had completed a preventative course of chemotherapy, and her 'measured' return to public life has included numerous appearances this year.
Looking back, Kate proved quite the sophisticate last June, as she wore a crisp white structured pencil dress with a bow along the neckline for the same event. Designed by Jenny Packham, the dress seems to have been updated with new neckline and waist detailing.
And while Kate looked incredibly chic, some fashion police might say she technically broke a little-known style rule: the V&A East Storehouse's website suggests wearing practical clothing and flat shoes due to the metal grid flooring. But the princess, being the pro she is, handled the uneven floors like a breeze. She's learned a thing or two from her days as a former polo player and one of the Royal Family's most accomplished equestrians.
Now, just in case you're wondering about the rest of the Royal Family, no worries, they'll be joining the celebrations too. However, it seems there will be a notable absence this year: rumors have it that King Charles won't ride in the parade due to his ongoing cancer treatments. One can only hope for a speedy recovery, because the monarch had been an active participant up until last year, riding for both his mother’s official birthday celebrations and his own. But we'll just have to wait and see what this year's version of Trooping the Colour brings!
