Turning the Tables on Feline Lady-dom: Kate McKinnon and Billie Eilish's Cats'-Eyes Adventure
Jumping back into the Saturday Night Live (SNL) fold as the host, Kate McKinnon dusted off her beloved character, the cat-obsessed Barbara Dedrew. Following a hiatus of eleven years, McKinnon co-starred with musical guest Billie Eilish in the whimsical sketch "Whiskers R We."
Embracing her character's love for felines, Barbara was depicted as an elderly cat enthusiast, tirelessly rescuing dozens of cats simultaneously. Meanwhile, Eilish, donning a wig, perked up the proceedings by portraying Paw-bree Hep-purrn, a helpful figure in facilitating cat adoptions at the "Holiday Cat Tower."
McKinnon quipped, "Cats are gifts that have to be fed," as her character. She playfully labeled one of the cats "Abyssinian, because I'll see him in hell for destroying my couch."
Besides Mrs. Claus, Hargitay (a Maris Cat character reference), and Cindy Crawford, an assortment of potential adoptees awaited their new homes. Curiosity piqued, McKinnon mused if Eilish was her daughter, given their shared interests. The pair joked that "Tár" was Eilish's favorite film, "Tush" was her favorite curse word, and they were both fans of Mariska Hargitay.
"I'm sorry if I seem out of place, I thought you were my daughter," McKinnon jested.
As the bit concluded, Eilish showcased "Lula," a British Shorthair cat transformed through extensive plastic surgery to near unrecognizability. Suggesting holiday gifts, Eilish encouraged viewers to donate cats to Santa Claus this year, stating, "Filling Santa's bag with cats if he doesn't look for them."
