Kasuka FC Striker Jacob Njoku Shines in Shopee Cup Qualifiers

Jacob Njoku, a newly signed striker for Brunei's Kasuka FC, delivered a standout performance in the ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup qualifiers. On August 8, 2025, at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium in Bandar Seri Begawan, Njoku scored a brace in the first leg of the qualifying round playoff against DH Cebu FC.

Njoku's first goal came in the 17th minute, a result of a low cross pass by Daisuke Kobayashi. His second goal was scored seven minutes after Cebu FC had equalized, securing a 2-1 home victory for Kasuka FC.

Njoku's quickness and ability to beat defenders were highlighted in the match report, showcasing his key offensive role for the team. Despite Cebu FC having more possessions, passes, and shot attempts, they couldn't find the back of the net.

Substitute winger JB Borlongan had two close chances to equalize late in the match, while Australian striker Esrom Paulos hit the crossbar with a free kick in the 70th minute. However, Njoku equalized the match again seven minutes later with a goal from a counter attack, beating two Cebu FC defenders and goalkeeper Jessie Semblante.

The second leg of the qualifying round playoff between Cebu FC and Kasuka FC will take place on Aug. 15, 2025, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila. Despite Njoku's impressive performance, Kasuka FC eventually lost the second leg 3-0, and DH Cebu FC advanced on aggregate.

Regardless of the outcome, Njoku's brace remains a significant contribution to Kasuka FC's campaign in the Shopee Cup qualifiers. His performance will undoubtedly be a talking point as the team prepares for the second leg and beyond.
