Marco Kasper Leads Detroit Red Wings to Overtime Victory

In a thrilling game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Detroit Red Wings secured a 4:3 overtime win, thanks in large part to the efforts of rookie sensation Marco Kasper. The Austrian center, who was drafted 8th overall by the Red Wings in 2022, played his 800th NHL game during this match.

Kasper, a 21-year-old forward from Carinthia, opened the scoring for the Red Wings in the 13th minute of the third period, tying the game and setting the stage for an exciting overtime finish. His winning goal, a solo effort down the left side, came in overtime, securing the much-needed victory for the Red Wings.

Gage Goncalves scored twice for the Tampa Bay Lightning, while Anthony Cirelli had a goal and an assist for the Red Wings. Patrick Kane and Tyler Motte also found the back of the net for Detroit.

The victory ended a two-game losing streak for the Red Wings, but their playoff hopes are still contingent on three losses from the Montreal Canadiens. The Red Wings must win their last three games of the season to qualify for the playoffs.

Kasper's impressive season continues, as he now has 18 goals and 16 assists. His rookie NHL season has been nothing short of remarkable, with him being named the 2024-25 Detroit Red Wings Rookie of the Year. His 37 points were the most by a Red Wings rookie since Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider achieved 50+ points in 2021-22.

After the game, Kasper expressed his appreciation for his team's effort in the game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. His strong two-way game, aggressive playstyle, and high compete level have been key to the Red Wings' success this season. Despite modest point totals for a top prospect, his ability to learn and adapt at the NHL level has been clear, suggesting significant development potential and a high ceiling as a future core player for Detroit.

In the other game of the night, the Minnesota Wild, featuring Marco Rossi, lost to the Calgary Flames with a score of 2-4.
