Karpov: "Chemki" to Stay with RPL Until June End

Russian Premier League (RPL) side FC Khimki remains hopeful of competing in next season's championship, despite an earlier refusal to issue a license by the RFU commission. Journalist Ivan Karpov reports that the Moscow club's management has initiated efforts to settle the existing debts owed to players and staff, amounting to approximately 1.2 billion rubles.

If the club successfully pays off the entire debt by June 1, the RPL may permit them to compete in a special arrangement. Additionally, according to sources, former "Wings of the Soviets" coach Igor Osinkin will reportedly lead the team in the upcoming season. Last season, Khimki ended up in 12th place. The club was imposed external management due to financial difficulties.

While it's still not guaranteed that Khimki will take part in the next RPL draw, their ongoing efforts to resolve financial issues might create an opportunity for their participation. The conditions for their involvement, though, would likely involve not only settling debts but also fulfilling all RPL licensing criteria set by the RFU, such as maintaining a stable financial position, meeting administrative requirements, and adhering to any additional conditions.

With Khimki's potential absence from the league, another club is set to occupy their spot, underscoring the challenges that lie ahead for the team. Nonetheless, the club is currently working diligently to secure their place in the Russian Premier League for next season.

Bookmakers might see an increased interest in the RPL as Khimki's potential return to football could inject excitement into the upcoming season, given their storied past and Igor Osinkin as their incoming coach. If Khimki successfully meets the RPL's licensing criteria and settles their debts by the specified date, they could potentially re-enter the sports realm, represented by the football field, as a part of the Russian Premier League.
