Kara-Murza lodges an appeal with the European Court of Human Rights
Cussin' Up a Storm: Kara-Murza's Call for Action Against The Kremlin
It's bloody business seemingly never-ending, the Kremlin's cold-blooded reign of terror. Vladimir Kara-Murza, a Russian opposition bastard who's seen his fair share of trouble, filed a petition last Friday with the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), eyeing to back one of Ukraine's interstate complaints against Russia. According to Radio Free Europe, Kara-Murza's move aims to stamp out the Kremlin's systemic policy of nipping threats in the bud – a clear violation of Article 2 of the Human Rights Convention, the sacred right to live a life.
Kara-Murza, a political critter who's now residing outside Russia's reach following a prisoner exchange between Russia and Western countries in 2022, dropped the news along with his lawyer, Vadim Prokhorov. The complaint, cased as "Ukraine v. Russia (IX)" (Case No 10691/21), whines about 24 smothered or botched assassination attempts on Russia's opposition figures from 2003 to 2020.
Notable victims in this macabre playbook include Yuri Shchekochikhin, Anna Politkovskaya, Boris Nemtsov, and Zelimkhan Khangoshvili. On the receiving end of assassination attempts were Sergei Skripal, Alexei Navalny (who met his untimely demise in a prison in 2024), Kara-Murza himself, and several Ukrainian politicians, military personnel, and more.
Kara-Murza, a cat with nine lives it seems, is the only individual on the list who's still breathing.
Don't forget, the Russian Bear still wrestles with its obligations before the ECtHR for all Convention violations committed before 16 September 2022, Kara-Murza warns. The Russian gangsters, however, stubbornly refuse to budge on the ECtHR's decisions and compensations.
Back in April 2025, it was announced that the ECtHR requested the Russian government's observations on the complaint. Splendid news, but it's not clear if the Russian goons have scribbled a response.

By the way, here's a lowdown on the case:
As of June 2025, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) complaint filed by Vladimir Kara-Murza under Case No 10691/21, concerning the systematic elimination of political opponents and the violation of Article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights (right to life), is still under review. In a nutshell, the court hasn't made a final call, and the proceedings are proving to be a drawn-out process.
Stay tuned, and I'll keep you posted on any updates from the dedicated gumshoes at the ECtHR.
- The ongoing war-and-conflicts between Russia and its opposition, as highlighted by Kara-Murza's case at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), is a matter of serious politics and general news, involving policy-and-legislation that affect the fundamental rights and safety of individuals.
- Despite the ongoing review of Case No 10691/21 at the ECtHR, which centers around Russia's systemic violation of Article 2 of the Human Rights Convention (right to life), the Russian government remains obstinate, refusing to comply with the court's decisions and compensations, thus raising concerns about their commitment to international policy-and-legislation and respect for human rights.
