Kaprizov continues to show affection for his "second home," Minnesota, even without a fresh contract as he commences training with the Wild.
Kirill Kaprizov, the Minnesota Wild's star forward, attended the team's training camp after more than four months, but the status of his contract remains uncertain.
Kaprizov, who has expressed a liking for the Twin Cities area, calling it his 'second home', has been focusing on practicing and preparing for the season. The negotiations between Kaprizov and the Wild are ongoing, with no further details available to the public.
General Manager Bill Guerin has expressed confidence in the completion of a new contract for Kaprizov, and he seems unfazed by the ongoing negotiations. Guerin also expressed confidence in the relationship with Kaprizov, emphasising that the Wild consider him to be their franchise player and a big part of their team.
A social media post by Frank Seravalli revealed that Kaprizov's camp allegedly rejected an offer believed to be for $128 million over eight years. However, neither Guerin nor Kaprizov has provided details about the contract negotiations.
Kaprizov's current contract expires in 2025, and he stated his focus is on playing hockey and winning games. After missing 40 games due to a lower-body injury, Kaprizov has been 'a little bit more focused' on his conditioning. He underwent surgery for his injury during the 2024-25 season and spent most of the summer in Russia with family and friends.
Kaprizov's agent, Paul Theofanous, was present at practice and spoke with assistant general manager Mat Sells. The negotiations between Kaprizov and the Wild are private, and no further updates have been shared.
The Wild have expressed that they are optimistic about the future with Kaprizov, and the negotiations are ongoing. Along with Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel, Kaprizov is one of the high-profile NHL players who arrived at camp with an expiring contract.
As the season approaches, fans and the Wild organisation will be eagerly waiting for an update on Kaprizov's contract situation. In the meantime, Kaprizov's focus remains on the camp, and he has stated that he will address contract negotiations when the time is right.
