Nnamdi Kanu Denies Role in #EndSARS Protest Destruction
"Kanu Denies Involvement in the Riot and Destruction During the #EndSARS Protests in Lagos"
The head honcho of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has flatly denied any connection to the October 2020 #EndSARS protests and the mayhem that ensued in Lagos State.
Our website reports that Kanu made this denial during his ongoing trial at the Abuja Federal High Court on Thursday, following the presentation of a video in which he was interrogated by the Department of State Services (DSS).
The video, shown in court, depicted Kanu responding to DSS agents who questioned him about his part in the violent incidents that occurred during the #EndSARS protests.
The prosecution, led by Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, probed Kanu about whether he was aware that his October 20 broadcast had instigated violence, killings, and property damage in Lagos.
Kanu, in response, distanced himself from the violence in Lagos, stating that since Lagos doesn't belong to Biafra, he couldn't be held responsible for the chaos that unfolded there. He emphatically declared, "I swear by the God who created heaven and earth, I have no hand and I know absolutely nothing in whatever form about the riot and destruction that happened in Lagos during #EndSARS."
In a subsequent defense, Kanu disputed the idea that he possessed authority over the protesters, stating, "If I had control over people, I wouldn't call for a referendum. I'd simply awaken one day and announce the creation of Biafra."
Following his defense, Kanu's trial proceeded with the second prosecution witness, a DSS agent, continuing his testimony. Justice James Omotosho, presiding over the case, scheduled the matter for further proceedings on May 14, 21, and 22.
