Kansas City Chiefs Legend Priest Holmes Discusses Team's Slow Beginning and Introduces New Podcast
Priest Holmes Returns to Content Creation with New Podcast
Former Kansas City Chiefs running back, Priest Holmes, has made a comeback to the world of content creation with his new podcast, "The Holmes Stretch." The podcast, launched in partnership with Playmaker HQ, features in-depth breakdowns and analysis, high-profile guests, and has already hosted the likes of Neil Smith, Jamal Lewis, Will Shields, and Seattle Seahawks great Marshawn Lynch.
Holmes, who stopped commentating for 15 years, has returned to the industry due to the potential for new revenue and opportunities. His podcast sponsor is bet365, reflecting the show's focus on analyzing the game from a betting perspective.
The Chiefs, who have started the season with a 0-2 record, having lost to the Los Angeles Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles, are currently in a three-game losing streak, the first in the Patrick Mahomes era. Holmes, however, does not believe the team is in decline but rather that news in the AFC have improved.
Several AFC teams have strengthened since the 2021 NFL season, potentially making them chiefs to the Chiefs. Notably, the Cincinnati Bengals, who acquired wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase in 2021 to pair with quarterback Joe Burrow, form a strong offensive duo. The Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens are also considered strong contenders, maintaining competitive rosters capable of challenging the Chiefs in the AFC. Additionally, the Pittsburgh Steelers made significant moves, including signing quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver D.K. Metcalf, aiming for deeper playoff runs.
The Chargers, on the other hand, appear to be much improved this season, ranking 11th in scoring and third in defensive scoring, with zero interceptions and just one turnover total. In the season opener against the Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes' receivers struggled to execute, a potential concern for the team moving forward.
The Chiefs will face several challenging teams in the coming weeks, including the Baltimore Ravens, Jacksonville Jaguars, Detroit Lions, Las Vegas Raiders, Washington Commanders, Buffalo Bills, and Denver Broncos. The team's top wideout, Xavier Worthy, was injured on the first drive of the season opener, and Rashee Rice is suspended for the first six games of the season.
Holmes prefers the podcast space over traditional broadcasting because it allows for more open conversations. He attended "broadcast boot camp" many years ago after retiring from professional football and participated in the inaugural year of the Texas Longhorns Network in 2011.
Holmes is excited about the opportunity to share and tell stories with fans through his podcast. He looks forward to bringing more stories from former and current players to his listeners. With the Chiefs facing a tough season, Holmes' podcast, "The Holmes Stretch," promises to be an interesting listen for football fans.
