The Declining Political Relevance of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in Kano State Politics
"Kano's Political Presence of Kwankwaso Dwindles, Pursuing APC Membership Out of Necessity - Report from Tinubu's Cabinet Member"
The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata, has declared Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as a spent political force in Kano State politics. According to Ata, Kwankwaso is desperate to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) to cling onto his dwindling political relevance.
As reported by our website, Ata made these remarks during a meeting with APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, at the party's national secretariat in Abuja. He beefed up his remark by stating that Kwankwaso's influence in Kano has significantly diminished and that the red caps associated with his 'Kwankwasiyya' movement have abandoned him.
"Kwankwaso is no longer active in Kano. He is only trying to join the APC for survival. Even Mr. President has his grassroots records. He is no longer attractive or an alternative," Ata said.
Ata argued that the APC does not require Kwankwaso's influence to win President Bola Tinubu's bid for the 2027 election in Kano, and warned that Kwankwaso's return to the APC could stir up trouble within the party.
Reports have circulated about Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf aligning with Kwankwaso's political movement. But Ata made it clear that he himself would not welcome Kwankwaso back into the APC unless instructed by Ganduje.
Speaking during the meeting, Ganduje was more diplomatic in his tone, stating that Kwankwaso would be welcomed back to the APC if he decides to join. However, he agreed with Ata, asserting that Kwankwaso's influence was not necessary to secure the APC's victory in Kano in 2027.
Ganduje likened Kwankwaso to a fish struggling in drying water, emphasizing that if there's room for shelter, it's only right to accommodate him. But he cautioned against building false hopes, stating that Kwankwaso is a tabled politician who may cause a stir in the APC if not handled carefully.
