Kangana Ranaut defends Aishwarya Rai amid Cannes backlash and wedding rumors

Actress Kangana Ranaut has spoken out in defence of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan following online criticism of her Cannes Film Festival appearance. The comments came as Ranaut’s own film, Bharat Bhagya Vidhata, prepares for a June 12 release.

Rumours about Ranaut’s personal life also surfaced recently after she was seen wearing traditional wedding symbols in Mumbai. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan attended the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, where her red carpet looks drew both admiration and body-shaming remarks. In response, Kangana Ranaut took to social media to condemn the criticism, calling it disrespectful. She emphasised that older women deserve respect and praised Rai Bachchan’s fashion as a form of self-expression.

Meanwhile, Ranaut herself became the subject of speculation when photographs showed her wearing a mangalsutra and sindoor in Mumbai. She later clarified that the look was part of a photoshoot and that she had not married.

The actress is now focusing on her upcoming film, Bharat Bhagya Vidhata, scheduled for theatrical release on June 12. The movie tells the true story of hospital staff who saved over 400 lives during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

Ranaut has consistently used her platform to address issues of public scrutiny, whether defending fellow actors or correcting misinformation about her own life. Ranaut’s defence of Rai Bachchan highlights ongoing debates about media scrutiny of women in film. Her next project, Bharat Bhagya Vidhata, will bring a real-life rescue story to audiences when it opens next month. The actress has also put an end to wedding rumours by confirming her single status.
