Kang Min-ho returns to Samsung Lions with a two-year championship mission at 40

The Samsung Lions have secured veteran catcher Kang Min-ho on a two-year deal. At 40, the free agent remains a dominant force in the KBO, having delivered another strong season in 2025. His return to the Lions comes with a clear ambition: to help build a championship-winning team over the next two years.

Kang made his KBO debut with the Lotte Giants back in 2004. After 13 seasons there, he joined the Samsung Lions in 2017 and has remained with the club since. His latest contract marks his fourth free-agency deal, making him the first player in KBO history to achieve this milestone.

In 2025, Kang proved his enduring value by batting .269 with 12 home runs and 71 RBIs. This consistency is nothing new—he has recorded at least 10 home runs in every one of his 16 professional seasons. With 2,496 games played, he now holds the KBO record for the most appearances. Under the new agreement, Kang will receive a signing bonus of 1 billion won (around $682,200). His annual salary is set at 300 million won ($207,600), with potential incentives adding up to 200 million won ($136,000).

Kang’s return strengthens the Lions’ roster as they aim for success in the coming seasons. His experience and reliable performance make him a key figure in the team’s plans. The two-year deal ensures he will continue to contribute both on and off the field.
