Kamuela orchestra set to play famous movie soundtracks

The Kahilu Theatre's POPS! Extravaganza, May 4th at 2 PM

Prepare yourself for an epic cinematic adventure as the Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra takes the stage with "The POPS!" on Sunday, May 4th, at Kahilu Theatre.

Get ready to immerse yourself in the emotional powerhouse that is film music, as this season's "POPS!" concert brings some of the most beloved film scores to life in stunning live performances.

Coinciding with the quirky "May the Fourth" celebration, the program offers an array of melodies from films that have seared themselves into our collective memory. Enjoy the sweeping romantic tunes, the bone-chilling adventure scores, and the mythical realms that you know and love from your favorite movies.

Artistic Director Brian Dollinger shares his excitement for this year's concert, "When people think of orchestral pops, John Williams comes to mind. But he's not the only musical mastermind. This concert celebrates a variety of composers and the iconic movies that brought their work to life."

The program is jam-packed with memorable pieces by musical heavyweights such as John Williams, Hans Zimmer, and Ramin Djawadi, alongside lesser-known but equally talented composers like Calvin Custer.

Dollinger believes that emotion is the key to great film music, "Music adds the emotional depth to what we see on the big screen. Music can make us feel awe when we gaze upon a Brachiosaurus, increase our heart rate when we watch a bicycle fly across the moon, and amplify our cheers when a space station is destroyed."

He further emphasizes that "The POPS!" concert is a fantastic introduction to the enchanting world of symphonic music. "This concert is perfect for individuals and families just discovering live symphonic music. Young and old alike will be captivated by this year's program. I think many first-time concertgoers will find themselves falling head over heels for orchestral music after experiencing it in this manner."

Tickets range from $76 to $24 and can be purchased online at kamuelaphil.org, by calling the Kahilu Theatre Box Office at (808) 885-6868, or by visiting the box office in person at 67-1186 Lindsey Road, Waimea, on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and during events.
