Kallas confirms final measure to establish tribunal for Putin's transgressions in Ukraine.

The European Union is set to take the final political step this Friday towards establishing the International Special Tribunal for Ukraine. This tribunal aims to bring senior political and military leaders who have committed the crime of aggression during the invasion of Ukraine to justice. Kaja Kallas, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Policy, announced this from Warsaw.

Kallas emphasized the importance of accountability for the war crimes and aggression committed, stating that there will be no impunity for such actions. The technical work for establishing the court has already been completed. The Secretary General of the Council of Europe will join a videoconference to underline the significance of this agreement.

Though the United States was initially involved in the preparation of this tribunal, they have been noticeably absent in its creation. Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski considers their absence as one of around a dozen important concessions made by the new U.S. Administration to Vladimir Putin.

While the details of the functioning and scope of the special tribunal on Ukraine remain unclear, it is known that it will have a limited jurisdiction that focuses on senior political and military leaders responsible for crimes of aggression committed during the current conflict.
