Kaldvee and Lill clinch record tenth Estonian mixed doubles curling crown
Marie Kaldvee and Harri Lill secured their tenth national mixed doubles curling title on Sunday. The victory came after a decisive 6:2 win in the final against juniors Hettel Weddro and Aleksander Andre. The championships took place at Tallinn's Tondiraba Ice Hall with seven teams competing.
Kaldvee and Lill entered the tournament as clear favourites. Their recent Olympic experience in Milano Cortina, where they defeated Sweden and Canada but lost six other matches, added to their reputation. The duo had previously claimed national titles in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2020.
The final saw them dominate against Weddro and Andre, two promising juniors who had reached the championship match. Kaldvee later praised their opponents, noting their strong performance and future potential. Last year's runners-up, Triin Madisson and Karl Kukner, took home the bronze medal this time. Liisa Turmann, secretary general of the Estonian Curling Association, also highlighted the high standard of junior players at the event.
The win marks Kaldvee and Lill's fifth mixed doubles title in the last decade. Their consistent success at national level contrasts with their mixed results on the Olympic stage. The tournament also showcased the rising talent of Estonia's junior curlers.
