Prominent Bollywood director Rono Mukherjee, known for Haiwan and Tu Hi Meri Zindagi, passed away on May 28 in Mumbai due to cardiac arrest. The award-winning filmmaker, who hailed from the influential Mukherjee-Samarth family, leaves behind a rich legacy in Indian cinema.

Rono Mukherjee, 83, was the president of North Bombay Durga Puja, and his contribution to the film industry began in the 1960s. The veteran filmmaker is credited with directing Tu Hi Meri Zindagi in 1965 and Haiwan in 1977.

Roni's final rites were held at Santacruz Hindu Crematorium, attended by his family members, including Kajol, Rani Mukerji, Ayan Mukerji, Tanishaa Mukerji, Sharbani Mukherji, and Siddharth Mukerji. His son, Samrat Mukherjee, performed the last rites.

Born in Kanpur, Roni was the eldest of the Mukherjee brothers. He was the son of Sashadhar Mukherjee, a pioneering Bollywood producer. Roni left behind a family deeply embedded in Indian cinema.

Tu Hi Meri Zindagi is a film where Roni served as the director and music director; there is some discrepancy regarding the release year across sources. Haiwan, another prominent work by Rono, was released in 1977.

Roni's death comes after the passing away of Ayan Mukerji's father, Deb Mukherjee, on March 14 this year. Deb Mukherjee was laid to rest at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Juhu.
