Kaiser Permanente’s $46M Privacy Settlement: How to Claim Your Share
Kaiser Permanente is emailing members about a $46 million class-action settlement over privacy concerns. The healthcare provider reached the agreement after allegations that patient data was shared without consent. Members now have the chance to file claims for compensation.
In a separate but related case, another settlement allows members to claim up to $75 for each qualifying text message received from Kaiser. Both settlements stem from privacy-related disputes, though the company states no misuse of data occurred.
The $46 million settlement covers claims that Kaiser shared patient information with third-party technology companies between November 2017 and May 2024. The company has since removed the tracking tools involved. While Kaiser maintains that no private data was misused or put at risk, the settlement resolves allegations of improper sharing.
Eligible members should receive an email with a link to the settlement website and a unique ID number. They can submit a claim for an estimated payment of $20 to $40, with the deadline set for March 12. A separate class-action settlement focuses on unsolicited text messages. Members who received qualifying texts can claim up to $75 per message, with submissions due by February 12. The two settlements address different aspects of Kaiser’s communication practices but share a focus on patient privacy protections.
Kaiser Permanente has removed the technologies linked to the data-sharing allegations. The settlement website provides details on how to submit claims before the deadlines. Members affected by either case can now seek compensation through the outlined process.
