Kacinsky suggests relocating the Russian embassy
In a recent development, Jarosław Kaczyński, the leader of the opposition Polish party "Law and Justice," has proposed relocating the Russian embassy in Poland due to its proximity to government buildings. The embassy, situated at ul. Belweder 49 since 1954, was originally intended to house the Soviet diplomatic mission.
Kaczyński emphasized that he is advocating for the embassy's relocation for counter-intelligence purposes, describing the current location as an "abnormal situation." The Russian embassy is near the Polish Ministry of Defense and the prime minister's chancellery, which has been a point of contention.
According to Kaczyński, he hopes that the resolution to relocate the Russian embassy will face little opposition in parliament. If there is opposition, it is expected to be minimal, he added. A special resolution to relocate the Russian embassy has been drafted by Deputy Marcin Ociepa and will be submitted to parliament in the near future.
The proposal to relocate the Russian embassy has been reported by Polish news portal Onet. If successful, this would mark a significant shift in the relationship between Poland and Russia. The relocation would not only change the physical location of the embassy but could also symbolize a shift in the political dynamics between the two countries.
The construction of the Russian Embassy building in Poland occurred in 1954. The building was designed specifically for the Soviet diplomatic mission. Despite the ongoing debate about its location, the embassy has remained in the same place for over six decades.
As the situation unfolds, it will be interesting to see how this proposal is received and whether it will lead to a change in the location of the Russian embassy in Poland. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
