K-pop Group Demon Hunters Aiming to Double Charts, Secure Gold Status, and Maintain Position as Most Consumed Album in UK for a Second Week

The K-pop Demon Hunters soundtrack continues to dominate the UK music charts, following the release of the Netflix animated film of the same name. The soundtrack, released via Island Records, has been topping the compilations chart since July and is on track to spend its eighth consecutive week at the summit.

The standout track from the soundtrack, "Golden" by the fictional girl group HUNTR/X, has been a streaming phenomenon this summer. The song, featuring Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei, has been at the top of the British Official Singles Chart for a third non-consecutive week, making it the longest-running K-pop number one in UK chart history.

"Golden" has also made waves internationally, topping the US Billboard Hot 100 earlier this week. Other tracks from the soundtrack have also performed strongly. "Soda Pop" is currently at number 3, while "Your Idol" reached number 6. "Takedown" and "Strategy" by real-life K-pop group TWICE are currently at 31 and 35 respectively.

The soundtrack has seen a significant increase in consumption in the UK, surpassing the previous record set by "Barbie The Album" (26.5 million streams). In the last week alone, the soundtrack garnered 27 million streams, making it the most streamed soundtrack in a single week in the UK ever.

The increased viewership of the Netflix film has contributed to this surge in consumption, with Music Week reporting a 23.1% consumption increase to 14,465 units for the soundtrack. As a result, Gold certification for the K-pop Demon Hunters soundtrack is imminent, as it has been two months since its release without a physical edition.

Looking ahead, "Golden" could regain the UK No.1 single position this week, as it has posted further week-on-week gains of 8.4%. Similarly, "Soda Pop" and "Your Idol" are expected to maintain their Top 10 placings this week, with consumption for each up almost 12% week-on-week.

With its continued success, the K-pop Demon Hunters soundtrack has made history as the second No.1 single by an act wholly or predominantly from South Korea, following Gangnam Style by Psy in 2012. This week, K-pop Demon Hunters could achieve its first 20,000-plus units chart week, a significant milestone for the soundtrack.
