Juventus has announced that Canadian striker Jonathan David is their initial signing for the summer transfer market.

Juventus Football Club has made a strategic move to strengthen its attacking options by signing Canadian striker Jonathan David on a free transfer. The five-year contract, worth approximately €6 million per season, plus bonuses, marks a significant addition to the team under new general manager Damien Comolli and coach Igor Tudor.

David, 25, comes to Juventus after an impressive spell at Lille in France, where he scored 109 goals and provided 30 assists in 232 matches across all competitions. His most notable achievement with Lille was helping the team secure the Ligue 1 title in the 2020/21 season and the French Super Cup the following year.

David's arrival at Juventus is seen as a response to the decline in performance of Dusan Vlahovic, who is expected to leave the club. Last season, Vlahovic was the top scorer for Juventus, scoring 10 league goals and five more in other competitions. Randal Kolo Muani, who joined in January, was second with eight goals. However, in the 2024/25 season, Juventus were outscored by six other teams in Serie A, and in the UEFA Champions League, they managed just nine goals in their eight League Phase outings.

David's ability to find space and be in the right place at the right time has been a key factor in his success. His international manager, Jesse Marsch, believes that David is second only to Erling Haaland in terms of pure goalscoring returns. Marsch coached Haaland during his time in the Red Bull system and sees David as a deadly striker who can continue to deliver goals at any level.

David's transfer to Juventus was for a fee of €27 million ($31.56 million). The Canadian striker has also impressed at the international level, scoring 36 goals and providing 20 assists in 67 senior caps for Canada, making him Canada's all-time leading scorer.

David began his professional career at Belgian club Gent, where he scored 37 goals and provided 15 assists in 83 appearances, winning the Belgian league Golden Boot in the 2019/20 season. His move to Juventus represents a new challenge for the striker, as he prepares to adapt to Serie A and continue his successful goal-scoring streak at the Italian giants.

Jonathan David is excited about the opportunity to join Juventus and contribute to the team's success. With his proven track record as a prolific forward in European leagues and his love for scoring and combining with his teammates, David is expected to provide immediate impact and help Juventus regain its former glory in the attacking department.
