Justin Jefferson expresses surprise at Shedeur Sanders' predicted drop in the 2025 NFL Draft
Joey Cool's Take: The Minnesota Vikings' Quarterback Shenanigans
Listen up, folks, cause I'm 'bout to spill the tea on the Minnesota Vikings' QB situation. And for once, it ain't the good stuff. According to their star wideout, Justin Jefferson, there's plenty of work to be done.
When it comes to the 2025 draft, Jefferson had a jaw-dropping reaction to Shedeur Sanders slipping all the way to pick 144. He couldn't fathom it, especially since teams like the Giants and Steelers could sure use a QB. But what's this got to do with the Vikings? More than you might think.
Their untested, second-year QB J.J. McCarthy has been handed the keys. If he flubs up, they're stuck with washed-up journeymen Sam Howell and Brett Rypien. Yikes!
So, would Jefferson rather have Sanders as his QB? Probably, but he ain't gonna say that, not wanting to screw with McCarthy. But he did make it clear he thought Sanders should've gone in the first or second round, not the bottom of the barrel.
The Vikings' quarterback room isn't exactly a cornucopia of talent either. They ranked fourth-worst in the NFL, according to CBS Sports. Their hope lies in McCarthy, who's been given the starting gig despite missing the 2024 preseason due to a torn meniscus. Head coach Kevin O'Connell's comments on McCarthy being their starting QB didn't exactly sound like a resounding endorsement.
If McCarthy can't deliver, how does Howell fare? Eh, not great if you watched the Commanders in 2023. He led the league with 612 pass attempts, tossed 21 interceptions, and as many TDs. Yep, he just couldn't seem to get it right.
The Vikings also have rookie Max Brosmer, an undrafted free agent from the University of Minnesota. Not exactly a silver lining there.
So, what's the deal with Sanders? Well, he's a wildcard. Some think he'll pan out as a solid NFL starter. Others, not so much. Only time will tell. But one thing's for sure—the Vikings better hope they got the right man for the job in McCarthy, cause things could get ugly fast!
